First "scary" experience....

So a couple nights ago, we experienced a potentially dangerous situation.  I woke up around 5am to use the bathroom (surprise surprise) but I did not recognize the fact that my leg was completely numb.  I swung my legs over and put my left leg down on the ground, bearing all my weight to stand and wait for my right leg to reach the ground.  WRONG.  My left leg was so "asleep" I had no idea.  Down to the ground I went.  As if my leg had been given a neuromuscular blocker. Thank goodness the bed and nightstand were there for my arms to catch me and I land on my butt.   That could have been disastrous.  Shannon had to come help me stand up.  It took 2-3 minutes before my leg even started to tingle from being "asleep".

I'm assuming this was because I woke up from sleeping on my back.  I must have cut the circulation off after hours of snoozing in the position I once loved.  I am not a side sleeper to this day.  I really struggle with staying on my side.  Luckily, I have a snoogle pillow to assist me with staying on my side (but I wasn't sleeping with it correctly that night).  Guess I better keep the "barrier" between Shannon & I because the pillow is necessary.

  1. My left leg is almost **always** asleep. It is so surreal! (It happens no matter what - even if I'm standing up!) My OB said it's really normal, and caused when the baby lays on a certain nerve. I'm with you on the side sleep stuff. I'm a life long, 100% stomach sleeper. One of the best parts about having the baby will be being able to sleep on my stomach again! LOL!
